. . . still we make Humana people work under the tree, but this time round, Niels from the head quarters in Durban came along and did wotk too (under the tree).
And we are struggling to get the roof done, it is growing and the first gum-poles are already aligned with the courtyard, so you can get more and more of an idea of the dimensions . . .

The roof is starting to emerge !
Finally!
or shall I say,
in time,
well, anyway, we are now seeing the roof starting,
just in time to compensate with out-door working and meetings,
and finalising some of the hopes we have been working on for so long.
There it starts and I do hope to see much more when I am in Tubatse next time.
Also Cloris, from the Humana partnership office, the big smile at the end, is very significant and I will tell you more, soon . .

. . . recycling of old building materials on our site
well, it is good to see that all of our waste is re-used, even if it was bloody expensive to get in the first place, but a good tomato garden should also be a very generous and money making enterprise.
After all it is the community that again profits, it might not be the class room or hall, but a good Italian relish . . . . I love the African sense of improvisation.
lets hope in future our choices for experimental building materials will be better!

What is happening on site? Week 3 to 4:
Everyone
dropped their plans and moved UP and DOWN like headless chickens as the … Big
Roof arrived in 2 trucks on Monday 23/01/2011. The truck drivers only called to
announce their coming when they were already in Steelpoort around 7am (drove
like Michael Schumacher to trace them from Steelpoort).
Cannot
recall the kind of exercise we had as the truck drivers thought they knew
better on how best to park their trucks- On they carried ignoring our
instructions and advise (on how best to get to the main gate to offload)
A 'U' turn at
our neighbour s site just before our main entrance was attempted (the truck got
stucked - the soil was muddy). The fiasco started- we danced until we dropped.
Almost 3 hours trying to move the truck out of the mud (shovels, bricks, logs,
concrete, spades, stones) until the front of the truck was dislocated from the
main body-
Then we
thought we had won the day s challenge when finally the truck moved- (we were
fooling ourselves). The truck
that got stuck was the one with the heavy machine that produces steel sheeting.
The other one had 2 big rolls of sheet. The real party started (from 5m to 8 m
long sheets were produced and packed aside). It took us until 7pm to get
everything in order
See delivery
invoices from Annikie when you come on Wednesday.
We are
expecting supporting logs this week and resuming of putting up the roof
structures. We have
constructed a shack from the old roof sheets, put up a fence and old car tires
for our new pre- school. (See pictures)
We currently
have less than 10 kids and are expecting more beginning of February.
Of course
our computer courses are continuing in the steel container.
We are
continuing to hold our workshops and some administrative activities under the
big tree- a pity (we are cutting it tomorrow).
Looking
forward to this week s deliveries, meeting you and other daily project chores
Cheers, Nondumiso
